Light Therapy:

Light is essential for our health and cellular function, just like water, sleep, and food. The human body is designed to function with an abundance of natural sunlight, but with our modern lifestyles, most people don’t get nearly enough light every day. Red light offers a plethora of benefits without the risk of Ultraviolet (UV) damage from sun exposure.

Red Light, also known as “Photobiomodulation” (PBM), is a non-invasive visible red wavelength that treats each layer of skin tissue. Often used to treat signs of aging, acne, chronic skin disorders and regrow hair..

Near Infrared (NIR) invisible wavelengths penetrate significantly deeper into the skin, useful in treating systemic inflammation, nerve damage, deep muscle repair, joint pain, low back pain, and even improving the brain's cognitive function.

Red and NIR light improve the efficiency of the cellular respiration process and help your body make and use ATP energy more effectively. ATP energy is crucial for your body’s function; it’s often called “the energy currency of life.” Light therapy does this by impacting the mitochondria (powerhouse of the cell). Red light therapy can increase the number of mitochondria, and also boost their function in the cell thus increasing ATP production.

Blue Light, also known as “Photodynamic Therapy” (PDT), uses specific wavelengths of light, ranging from 400 NM to 500 NM on the electromagnetic scale. Blue light wavelengths are very short, so they don't absorb very far into the skin and for this reason are very useful for treating acne, inflammation, rosacea and psoriasis. Blue light has also shown to be helpful aiding in skin cancer prevention.

Wavelengths

Certain wavelengths of light can alter our cells' state and return them to balance by reducing oxidative stress and boosting energy production. Each Wavelength provides different beneficial properties and is measured in nanometers (NM).



The red light wavelengths that have the most scientifically proven benefits are 630 nm and 660 nm. 

Unlike shorter wavelengths, wavelengths longer than 1000nm are not absorbed into the melanin in the skin, resulting in greater amounts of light energy penetrating deeper into the tissue. This opens up the treatment of joint disorders, brain disorders, and other deep-tissue conditions as deep as 10mm beneath the skin.

Safety/Timing


Individuals with highly sensitive skin could experience temporary redness and tightness, likely due to increased blood circulation to the area. This could be avoided with shorter sessions.

Red light therapy is safe even for sensitive parts of the body, like the eyes. In fact, red light therapy has been used to improve eye health by reducing inflammation and promoting cellular repair in the retina. Although red light therapy can improve eye health, the intense light emitted from a powerful LED device can cause eye strain. Eye treatments should be kept to a maximum of three minutes. When not treating the eyes, wear light-blocking goggles. Additionally, it is recommended to use light-blocking goggles during blue light sessions.

Light therapy treatment times range from 3 to 20 minutes. Within this range, the body’s biological response to red light is most favorable. While no immediate adverse effects have been reported during treatments longer than 20 minutes, more is not better because the biological processes stimulated by light treatment can’t be rushed.

The Blue Light present in these panels provides anti-bacterial benefits treating skin issues like acne, psoriasis and rosacea. 


Soak up the light while lying on a plush IR mattress. You have the option to add heat to your session via the IR infused cushion beneath you.  But that's not all! To enhance your healing experience even further, our Red Light Therapy room is equipped with an in-room acoustic frequency generator, delivering bonus healing frequencies to amplify your session.


Just lie down, relax and let the Red Light panel hang over you for the next 20 minutes. We recommend doing so without clothing to allow for max exposure of light on the skin.


Studies have shown that 10-20 minute sessions are ideal to receive maximum benefits from light therapy.  Light blocking goggles are provided for you to wear during the session if you choose. Short sessions of 3 minutes without the goggles have shown to be very beneficial to overall eye health.
